This course, offered asynchronously online, introduces students to theories and principles of professional values, ethics and morality applicable to careers in health, fitness and wellness professions. Required Text Doherty, R. F., & Purtilo, R. B. (2021). Ethical dimensions in the health professions (7th ed.). St. Louis, MO: Elsevier. Course Objectives After completing KIN 400, students will:  

 

  1. Describe the role and importance of professional values, ethics and morality across the health, fitness and wellness industries and within the scope specific to the individual career path(s) pursued by each student.
  2. Describe and apply common theories and principles professional values, ethics and morality across the health, fitness and wellness industries and within the scope specific to the individual career path(s) pursued by each student.
  3. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to apply common principles and methods to identify, define, analyze and take action on current ethical dilemmas as health, fitness and wellness professionals.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with an interprofessional team of colleagues through personal reflection on, discussion about and communication of professional values and ethics that are similar and different than one’s when dilemmas in patient/client-centered care arise.
