In ENG 102 you will learn strategies for writing and research that will help you write and research efficiently in and out of the classroom. The course’s two overarching goals are for you to (1) understand and practice the idea that research is a thoroughly rhetorical endeavor and (2) successfully employ twenty-first-century critical information literacy practices. To meet these goals, we will research salient and important issues that directly affect us as learners, citizens, and humans, and have discussions about how information about those issues circulates and the rhetorical contexts surrounding the information we read about those issues. This course is broken into three main segments, each with a different focus. In Segment One, we explore some of the big issues facing our planet’s waterways. In Segment Two, we dig into some of those specific issues. In Segment Three, we contribute critical work for the community.
