Work-based learning experiences can help build a strong workforce

Work-based experiences like internships and apprenticeships can offer valuable lessons to complement those learned in the classroom, helping to build a strong workforce.

M³ recognizes the value that these experiences outside the traditional education setting can have to help students plan for college and their future careers. These opportunities are the focus of this M³ (pronounced “M-Cubed”) webinar.

M³ partner Jerry Baake, manager of workforce development at Advocate Aurora Health, led a discussion on a panel of students and employers that included Russ Klisch, president of Lakefront Brewery.

Staff from UWM, MATC AND MPS discussed how students and employers can benefit from work-based learning experiences. Together, nearly 6,000 students across the three M³ institutions took part in work-based learning opportunities in 2019-20. MPS students described how they used workplace learning to prepare for the future.
