On this virtual installment of Social Good Morning, we’ve invited Sharlen Moore, Executive Director at Urban Underground, to share her experience co-founding a youth led organization that empowers their voices to make a change. This event is proudly part of Startup Milwaukee Week.

Social Good Morning is a talk series hosted by our very own Entrepreneur-in-Residence of Social Innovation, Mark Fairbanks. LEC invites one local social innovator per month to have a short interview with Mark and then an open-format discussion, fielding questions from the audience about their strategies and passions. Topics of conversation range from poverty to sustainability to inclusivity and beyond. Join us for this fantastic opportunity to hear from and chat with a Milwaukee community professional and forge meaningful connections with a multidisciplinary audience of faculty, community members, and students alike. Join us and learn more about what it takes to become a social innovator in Milwaukee.

Startup Milwaukee Week connects entrepreneurs with the resources they need (investors, support programs, service providers, etc.) to launch and scale high-growth tech companies in the Milwaukee region. The 6th annual event is taking place virtually, November 11 – 18, 2020 and is supported by Husch Blackwell, Northwestern Mutual and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and Skills Pipeline. Sharlen Moore has committed her life to building and sustaining grassroots leadership for change. She has a passion for community justice, which led to her co-founding Urban Underground in 2000, a nationally recognized grassroots youth development organization whose members have been at the forefront of youth-led social change in Milwaukee and the region. She is also the founding member of Youth Justice Milwaukee which is a broad-based youth decarceration campaign advocating for the creation of community-based, family-centered, restorative programs as an alternative to locking up youth in Wisconsin prisons. Sharlen’s efforts have touched the lives of countless youth and have inspired a new generation of young leaders that will carry forth the struggle for justice and equality. Sharlen currently serves as Director of Youth Justice Milwaukee & Urban Underground, located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
