Kao Zoua Yang serves as the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program advisor at UW-Milwaukee. He works directly with McNair scholars in their preparation for graduate studies that lead to the Ph.D. degree. Kao Yang preps students in developing their personal statements, identifying funding opportunities, applying for fellowships/scholarships, and research development for graduate studies. His role is to help McNair scholars stay on track as they transition into graduate level studies. Aside from his role as an advisor, Kao Yang is a current Ph.D. student in the materials science & engineering department here at UW-Milwaukee. His research topic is in high temperature oxidation and kinetics of austenitic steel alloys used in petrochemical industries. As a Ph.D. student, Kao Yang was a recipient of the AIME Henry DeWitt Smith scholarship, AOP Fellowship, and AOP R1 Fellowship.

Kao Yang has a B.S. in materials science at UW-Eau Claire with an emphasis in mathematics. After his undergraduate studies, he went on to complete his M.S. degree in materials science & engineering at Florida International University where he received the McNair Graduate Fellowship.
