Description

Seedlings is a company that connects children with a healthier lifestyle. I created a program that partners with school districts to bring healthy eating into the classrooms. Seedlings want to teach kids about the importance of growing your own food and the positive impacts of healthy eating. Over 1 in 5 students are eligible for reduced lunches and many rely on the schools for their daily meals. They should be provided with healthy meals. Families on food stamps or low income cannot afford to buy fruits and vegetables so many of these kids do not know the standard healthy eating. This leads to obesity which is already high in the United States. Seedlings will introduce healthy eating through school gardens and greenhouses. These will be partnered with teachers and be incorporated into their daily lessons while also given the opportunity to try these foods that could not be offered at home. Students will learn about community team building while working on these plants, They will learn about composting and how their leftover waste will go back into the ground and help nourish new plants. With the seeds these little seedlings will grow with their produce.

Mission

Lowering obesity rates in the United States through growing fruit and vegetables.

Vision

With gardens and greenhouses on school grounds children will be engulfed in the environment of healthy eating and sustainability.
