Bio

Corey Thornton Jr, son of Kathy and Corey Sr, is a Senior in the Design and Visual Communication program at UW-Milwaukee. Born and raised in Milwaukee, Corey grew up interested in artistic expression. Animated cartoons, serving as inspiration, lead him to try art making for himself by continuing to explore artistic expression throughout middle and high school! When deciding which career to pursue, Corey eventually was influenced by a comrade to try Graphic Design. The journey is just beginning in more than one way, as Corey is the first in his family to pursue Graphic Design! He is inspired by known designers like Paula Scher, Jamie Hewlett, Paul Rand, and Chip Kidd, as well as some of his classmates and the man who convinced him to pursue the profession (high school friend Nashon @natezgraphics on Instagram). Corey is looking to become a jack of all trades designer, capable of tackling any challenge in his own way! Corey dreams of someday utilizing his talents for a larger company like Adidas, Sony, or Cartoon Network, but for now his focus is on helping local businesses with brand identity and doing his best for UWM’s athletic media team as an intern and completing his 4th year!

Description

The organization known as Zora (Croatian word for Dawn) is a beacon of hope for young adults between the ages of 16-21 who are tired of watching their community stand divided. This company is here to help explore and nurture different aspects of leaderships from all angles possible. We will help the young adults take time to brainstorm alongside other community members and Milwaukee based designers to integrate design thinking into the minds of next generation.

After discovering the particular leadership/personality style from individuals, we will work with them to try placing them on powerful pedestals to enable them with the opportunity to organize community projects according to their vision or choose to work within the lines of a project developed by a designer from the Design and Visual Communication program from this fall’s senior class.

The goal of our company is to align ourselves with community members to create stronger, more stable leadership from the people. Not relying upon specific figures or title holders to represent the beliefs of people around them that have no relation to them. Redistributing the power to those who yearn for it most.

Mission

Raising community leaders, breaking community barriers.

Vision

Helping young adults realize their potential as leaders and utilize design thinking to solve problems within their communities.
