Bio

I sincerely believe that design is the most effective way to connect the world. In graphic design we have this incredible opportunity to study and access the universal language of visual communication. I have learned the power of an image and how it can reach even farther than the words that we exchange day to day. In order to use this power to its fullest potential I find it necessary to refer back to the classical rules of composition used in painting and drawing because it has proven itself in supporting narrative since the very beginning. One of my largest priorities in my work is to bring artfulness back into my craft as I progress in design. I want to create effective designs that breath a message and have a presence that evokes emotion in those who consume it. A design’s message should not only read clearly to those who are looking for it but also have something to say to those who aren’t. Ways I work to hybridize art and design is to transfer hand crafted media into the digital commonplace. A variety of tangible media can deliver parts of the narrative in a way that establishes character and context. Crossing over analog into a modern and digital setting is my way to be innovative in my design work.

Lomo Logo

Description

Lomo is an app that acts as your personalized invitation to explore the local gemstones of your city. Based on a user profile, Lomo generates an event forecast, pulling local activities that are happening all week, or all the way down to the last minute. Our goal is to help our users find the thing that inspires them to get out and connected to their community. Is it live music? authentic cuisine? Sports? Whatever the case, Lomo will help you find your local motive.

Mission

We want to highlight the unique gemstones of Milwaukee by inviting the community to support local businesses that exist outside of their regular routine. Our reasoning behind this idea is to diversify the spending that affects the local revenue of  communities who spend exclusively in their own neighborhoods. Increasing local revenue helps improve the standard of living in different regions of a city, including civic restoration, bettering public schooling and public transportation. Mixing and matching communities to invest in other communities is our take on improving local revenue throughout the city.

Vision

Our vision is for Lomo to speak on behalf of the small businesses that give Milwaukee it’s character. We want the invitation to support local businesses to not feel like a cause, but a true motivator for people to go and explore the city around them. Lomo should be the answer to the search “What are we doing tonight?” in order to show the user the most authentic and personalized experience they can find, while helping their neighbors in the process.
