Cybersecurity professionals ensure information is protected from data breaches, unauthorized access and data security threats. In our cybersecurity certificate program, you’ll gain the technical knowledge and problem-solving skills to help secure systems from cyberattacks and information privacy intrusions.
Our graduates pursue careers as information security analysts, penetration testers and forensic computer analysts. Plus, cybersecurity professionals are in high demand: Employment of information security analysts is projected to grow 33% from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations.

- Develop the skills to assess risks to the security of information within an organization.
- Complete the certificate either as part of a bachelor’s degree in Information Science and Technology or as a standalone certificate for bachelor’s degree holders.
Want to gain practical skills in digital forensics and cybercrime investigation? Then our graduate certificate in Cybercrime Forensics may be for you. The program is a unique collaboration between UWM’s School of Information Studies and the Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology, meaning you’ll learn from experienced faculty across two academic units.
Many students choose to pursue this certificate along with a master’s degree, such as the MS in Information Science and Technology or the MS in Criminal Justice and Criminology. By doing so, you can enhance your main degree with increased knowledge in cybercrime forensics and become a more competitive job candidate.
Program highlights include:
- Take cybercrime courses covering theory, policy and practical skills in finding digital evidence and enforcing security measures.
- Flexible learning options, with both hybrid and online formats.
- Gain hands-on experience investigating digital crimes and determining legal solutions.
Our information security certificate program will prepare you to protect organizations against cyber threats and privacy intrusions. You’ll develop skills in safeguarding information, systems, networks and data across a range of industries.

- Dive into courses with dedicated faculty who teach both in-person and online.

Undergraduate Program
Our bachelor’s program in Information Science and Technology combines core IT skills like web design, programming and project management with electives that you choose. Designed to bridge the gap between people, technology and information, the program will give you the knowledge to analyze, design and implement technology solutions in a range of industries.
Our graduates can be found in public and academic settings across the country, including at major companies like Baird, Fiserv, Northwestern Mutual, U.S. Bank and more. And they embrace meaningful roles as computer network architects, database administrators and information security analysts, to name a few.
Program highlights include:
- On-campus, online and hybrid learning formats.
- One of the most flexible degree programs on campus. With only 45 required credits in the major, you’ll have around 42 credits of electives that you can use to enhance your studies with additional minors, certificates or a double major in another field.
- Access to a dedicated career advisor through UWM’s School of Information Studies to ensure you’re ready to excel in the workforce.
Accelerated Program
Our accelerated program will help you gain both your undergraduate and graduate degrees in Information Science and Technology, saving both time and money. You’ll begin your master’s degree coursework as a senior and take six graduate credits while paying undergraduate tuition — shortening your master’s degree requirements to 24 credits instead of 30.
UWM’s bachelor’s program in Information Science and Technology combines core IT skills like web design, programming and project management with electives that you choose. Then, at the graduate level, you’ll master the ability to manage complex data and protect sensitive information, preparing you for leadership roles.
