The whole principle of the Information Science and Technology major is that there’s so much to it. There’s the technology, the business and the people. So you have to learn to prioritize, and to develop the methods and tools to do well in real-life projects.

Data science is a good field, and it’s growing. My advisors really pushed me to pursue this. This degree is going to give me a lot more opportunities. And just give me a better opportunity to, essentially, make more money in the future.

- An undergraduate certificate in Artificial Intelligence for Information Science and Technology. You’ll gain the skills to apply AI tools and techniques to real-world information challenges, like organizing large datasets.
- An undergraduate certificate in Artificial Intelligence & Analytics for Business. This certificate program will equip you to analyze data, build machine learning models and develop AI capabilities for businesses.

- An engineering master’s degree concentration in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. This one-of-a kind program combines AI skills with engineering and is open to a wide array of bachelor’s degree holders.
Think of computer engineering as a blend between computer science and electrical engineering. It’s a great fit if you’re interested in analyzing problems and designing solutions related to hardware, software, networks and equipment. Plus, computer hardware engineers are in demand; in 2024, the median salary was $155,020, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

A computer science degree creates a great foundation for a wide range of career options, including video game developer, software engineer, computer programmer, application developer or programmer, information security analyst, network architect, cyber security expert and more.

- You’re in great company: Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella earned his master’s degree in computer science at UWM. Our graduates have also launched careers at top companies including Amazon, Apple, Deloitte, Epic, Ford, Nintendo, Northwestern Mutual and Rockwell Automation.
- We offer both a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in computer science. Choose the BS in computer science if you want a more technical degree focused on software, computer systems and networks. Or, you can choose the BA in computer science if you want to combine your degree with another major or two minors, opening the door to more career opportunities while pursuing other interests.
- You can also fast-track your master’s with an accelerated graduate program, meaning you could earn both your bachelor’s and master’s degrees in five years, saving time and money.

Data analytics is all about examining large sets of data to identify trends that help businesses make smart decisions. This fast-growing field will continue to be in high demand over the next decade. With a data analytics degree, you can go on to become a data analyst, data scientist, operations research analyst or market research analyst.
What sets our data analytics program apart is that it’s customized to your interests. That means you can enter the field you’re most passionate about, whether that’s health care, social sciences, business, the arts or something else. And with close ties to local businesses and Fortune 500 companies, we’ll connect you to organizations that are leaders in data analytics, like Northwestern Mutual and Rockwell Automation.
Data science draws on concepts and courses from business, math, communication and computer science to create new ways to process data using algorithms and predictive models. All organizations — not just tech companies — make decisions using information gleaned from data.
With a data science degree, you can find jobs as a data scientist, data analyst, software engineer, machine learning engineer, AI analyst and more. What’s more, data science jobs are projected to grow by 35% (much faster than the average for all occupations) by 2032.

- Our curriculum combines computer science and math. You’ll begin with calculus and other basics before building to artificial intelligence, machine learning, system structures and advanced statistics.
- UWM’s Data Science Club gives students a chance to network, share knowledge and help each other with coursework and projects.
- We’ll connect you to local businesses, such as Harley-Davidson, Molson Coors, Rockwell Automation, Northwestern Mutual and Johnson Controls. These connections can lead to internships and full-time job opportunities upon graduation.
Designed to bridge the gap between people, technology and information, our IST programs will equip you with the skills needed to analyze, design and implement technology solutions.
People with information science and technology degrees are in demand across a range of industries, including health care, insurance and security. They work as web developers, information security analysts, database administrators, software developers and more.
Highlights of our information science and technology programs include:
- Our bachelor’s information science and technology program is highly flexible, offering on-campus, online and hybrid learning formats. We also offer a master’s in information science and technology.
- UWM’s nonprof-IT program pairs teams of students with local nonprofits that need IT solutions and tech support. That means you’ll gain hands-on experience and strengthen practical skills while serving your community.
- You’ll benefit from alumni connections and strong industry partnerships with businesses, nonprofits and government agencies.

Information technology management acts as a bridge between technology systems and the businesses that use them. It involves creating technology-based solutions to business challenges and being able to communicate those solutions effectively to others.
At UWM, you’ll find built-in support for both the IT and business aspects of this degree, with an emphasis on building communication skills to better translate your expertise to future colleagues. Plus, as a student within UWM’s business school, you’ll have access to a dedicated career center, career advisors, and internship and job fairs, as well as a range of mentorship programs.
People with information technology management degrees often go on to become systems analysts, software administrators, data analysts, technology solutions specialists and more. These jobs are in demand and typically pay well. For example, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary for computer systems analysts is $159,000.
