I’ve tested positive for COVID-19. What do I do?

As is the case for any illness, UWM employees should notify their supervisor when they need to make arrangements for sick leave or time off.

Students who live in UWM residence halls and test positive should contact University Housing to arrange for isolation using this form.

Students with possible COVID-19 symptoms or exposure should contact the Student Health and Wellness Center or their regular health care provider to determine whether COVID-19 testing is advised. Students can call the Student Health and Wellness Center to schedule a COVID-19 test.

In the case of a positive diagnosis, students are encouraged to contact their instructors for flexibility with classes and assignments.

Guidance:

If you test positive, stay home. If you live in a UWM residence hall, follow University Housing guidance.

Use this CDC Isolation and Exposure Calculator to guide you through recommendations for when you can return.

While you are isolating:

  • Monitor your symptoms. If you have an emergency warning sign (including trouble breathing), seek emergency medical care immediately.
  • Stay in a separate room from other household members, if possible.
  • Use a separate bathroom, if possible.
  • Take steps to improve ventilation at home, if possible.
  • Avoid contact with other members of the household and pets.
  • Don’t share personal household items, like cups, towels and utensils.
  • Wear a well-fitting mask when you need to be around other people.
  • Notify close contacts
