Interests & Expertise

Dr. Richard Dettman is a Veteran of the United States Air Force and the Wisconsin Air National Guard. Rick has been employed in the cardiovascular ultrasound field for the last 35 years and has worked as a hospital staff echocardiographer, an ultrasound consultant, and a field applications specialist for a medical imaging company. He has been active in academia as a trainer and an educator since 1999 and was employed full-time as a clinical instructor and program director at the Milwaukee Area Technical College-Cardiovascular Technology Echocardiography Program. He is a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (Adult and Pediatric Echocardiography) and has earned a Master of Arts degree in (e) education and a Doctorate in Public Health focusing on Community Health Education. Rick has served as a Fellow in the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE) since 2007 and has volunteered as an on call echocardiographer for the Bread of Healing Free Clinic since 2008.

Recent Funded Grants

  • Milwaukee Area Technical College Innovation Grant Recipient for $75,000 for the purpose of adding Three-Dimensional Imaging to existing iE-33 Philips Cardiovascular Ultrasound System platform (2014)
  • General Electric Medical Systems Grant award Recipient for a Vivid e Laptop Ultrasound System for the Bread of Healing Clinic to perform echocardiograms at the free clinic (2010)
