Notes to Contributors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Digital Yiddish Theatre Project (DYTP) welcomes original research, interviews, reviews, and translations of primary sources about Yiddish theatre and performance broadly, and its intersection with other arts; its history and evolution, onstage and offstage artists, playwrights, audience, and current productions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prospective contributors should send enquiries to our project manager, Dr. Nick Underwood, at dytpblog@gmail.com<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We accept submissions of various lengths, but no more than 5000 words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Articles must be in English and should be submitted electronically as Word documents to Dr. Underwood. The typical length is 3,000 words or less, but we will consider longer submissions on a case-by-case basis. Please also attach any images that you would like to accompany the article, and ensure that you have permission to reproduce them. The suggested level of image resolution is 300 dpi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If there are sources that you would like to link in your article, please supply a URL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Potential contributions to the DYTP will be reviewed by our editors, and if accepted for publication, edited for precision, style, and length. Authors will receive copy-edited versions of their manuscripts for approval prior to publication. We do not consider materials that have been published previously. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We follow a modified version of the Chicago Manual of Style<\/em>, with the following emendations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

YIVO transliteration<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please follow YIVO guidelines for transliterating Yiddish titles and quotations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These can be found at https:\/\/www.yivo.org\/yiddish-alphabet<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deviations from YIVO transliteration should only be preserved in the interests of locating original documents or texts, or if non-standard transliteration is necessary to preserve rhyme or dialect pronunciation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Titles and translations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yiddish titles should be cited in the original language first, with an English translation in parentheses: e.g. Got, mentsh, un tayvl <\/em>(God, Man, and Devil). Please also supply a parenthetical English translation for the titles of any works cited in other languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within titles, people\u2019s names should follow the above system: e.g. Moris Shvarts un der yidisher kunst teater.<\/em> For a name cited in the body of the text, however, use its common English transcription, even if it departs from YIVO orthography: e.g. Thomashefsky, not Tomashevski; Maurice Schwartz, not Moris Shvarts, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Footnotes and works cited<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Short, parenthetical citations should be included in the text for all direct quotations. If appropriate, please include a list of works cited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The author grants the DYTP the exclusive right to publish his or her blog post. Authors retain copyright of their contribution and are free to subsequently republish the material elsewhere on condition that due acknowledgment is made to the DYTP as the initial publisher (i.e. \u201crepublished by courtesy of the Digital Yiddish Theatre Project\u201d), which should also be informed of the title and date of republication. To be considered for publication on yiddishstage.org<\/a>, a blog post needs to be written in its entirety by the author(s) and should not infringe any existing copyrights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
