“A series of pieces written and performed by women and femme folk to celebrate our unique stories and everything we have overcome. For too long, our stories have been told for us by people who don’t know the first thing about us. We are the masters of our own narrative.”

For the past 5+ years, we have done The Vagina Monologues (TVM) for our spring production. This year we’re doing something new! We want to capture the spirit of TVM while intentionally uplifting the voices of women and femme-identified folks of color from diverse backgrounds. We want to give people the chance to have their stories and voices heard! We are asking for YOU to submit your stories. Come as you are and say what you need. The theme for the production is “Finding our voice.”

We are hosting three writers workshops over the spring semester for EVERYONE who is interested in brainstorming or feedback, it is NOT mandatory but it is encouraged. You can come with a piece that is already written, or create your own piece as we participate in engaging conversations on intersections.

What should I bring?

A notebook or journal, a pen, and your creative energy! Your monologue can take any form, such as an essay, a personal story, or a poem. If you already have a piece that you intend to perform and/or submit but want some feedback, feel free to bring that too! Remember- this is your chance to express yourself how YOU want to be expressed.

Submissions and Performance

We will be accepting submissions until April 20th! To Submit Your Piece for the Monologues from the Margins Performance:

• Please send all submissions to wmncntr@uwm.edu with the subject line “MARGINS SUBMISSION”
• please clarify if you would like to perform your own piece or if you would like have an actor perform your piece
• We ask that you keep pieces no longer than 800 words
• submit piece in pdf format
