Summer is&nbsp;right around the corner, but we have just one more hurdle ahead: Finals Week. Exam season is tough and we can get caught up in our studies and forget to take time for ourselves.&nbsp;I wanted to share some information on how you can take&nbsp;mindful&nbsp;breaks&nbsp;between study time to&nbsp;increase your focus and reenergize.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-take-a-break-that-works-for-you\">Take a break that works for you\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s&nbsp;important&nbsp;to figure out which breaks work for you. This means&nbsp;finding breaks that fit into your schedule and that&nbsp;won\u2019t&nbsp;lead to procrastination. For example,&nbsp;if&nbsp;you\u2019re&nbsp;doing homework&nbsp;on your computer,&nbsp;maybe&nbsp;a&nbsp;short walk is&nbsp;better&nbsp;for you than&nbsp;going on your phone.&nbsp;Also, the time you spend taking a break should be something to&nbsp;monitor.&nbsp;If exams are coming up, we want to have enough time&nbsp;to prepare,&nbsp;so keeping&nbsp;an&nbsp;eye on the clock during a break&nbsp;helps&nbsp;us make&nbsp;sure we get back to work.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-does-mindfulness-look-like-during-a-break\">What does mindfulness look like during a break?\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Mindfulness is being completely aware of your&nbsp;surroundings, how you feel in the moment, and being in touch with&nbsp;your&nbsp;senses and thoughts.&nbsp;One way to practice in any environment is through a body scan. This process includes going through each part of your body and&nbsp;recognizing&nbsp;how&nbsp;it&nbsp;feels. Or,&nbsp;during your walks between classes, use that time to take in the air, notice the environment around you, and&nbsp;just breathe. Small,&nbsp;mindful breaks like these can help us slow&nbsp;down on&nbsp;a busy day.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-here-are-some-tips-for-mindful-breaks-nbsp\">Here are some tips for mindful breaks:&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Set intention for your breaks and limit the time the break lasts\u00a0\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Setting\u00a0intention\u00a0for your breaks could\u00a0include choosing to\u00a0accomplish\u00a0a small 5-minute task or going on your phone only to check your messages.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose breaks that help you refocus and recharge\u00a0\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Breaks like getting a snack or\u00a0stretching\u00a0help energize us for\u00a0when we return to our tasks.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid activities that\u00a0create distraction or procrastination\u00a0from your original\u00a0task\u00a0\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It\u2019s\u00a0easy to get caught up doomscrolling on social media, cleaning a messy area, or\u00a0fixing something\u00a0that&#8217;s\u00a0broken.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-here-are-some-ideas-for-mindful-breaks-nbsp\">Here are some ideas for mindful breaks:&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Breathing\u00a0exercises\u00a0\u00a0\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>There are many breathing\u00a0exercises\u00a0you can practice while taking a mindful break. These can include box breathing,\u00a0belly breathing, and other breath work\u00a0techniques that can be guided or self-paced.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mindful\u00a0or Rainbow\u00a0Walk\u00a0\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Taking a mindful walk can let us take in nature and fresh air.\u00a0Try to find all of the colors of the rainbow around you.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Screen Break\u00a0\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Screens and scrolling can take time away from personal connections.
