Dear Campus Community, Not Passed Person to Person: Unlike norovirus or the common flu, Cyclospora is not contagious between people. It is exclusively contracted by consuming raw produce, such as leafy greens, fresh herbs, or berries, that was contaminated at the agricultural source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dining and Retail Services takes any potential food contamination seriously and works closely with vendors and suppliers to ensure food safety before products arrive on campus and again upon receipt and preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After reviewing current supplier information, Dining and Retail Services has confirmed that the lettuce currently served on campus originates from California and not from any farm or region identified in ongoing federal traceback investigations related to Cyclospora concerns. In addition, the campus Taco Bell location has been closed since mid-May. Any potentially affected lettuce products previously purchased for that location were never served on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Dining and Retail Services continues to reinforce proper produce handling and washing procedures with all staff as an additional measure to reduce the risk of contamination. Campus Dining remains in close communication with federal and state public health agencies and will continue monitoring any updates related to foodborne illness investigations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Campus Dining Status:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>Campus Dining is actively monitoring federal Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) traceback investigations. None of our current dining hall suppliers or inventory originates from farms or regions flagged in active federal alerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Symptoms to Monitor:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>Symptoms typically appear 1\u20132 weeks after exposure and are marked by frequent, watery diarrhea, severe bloating, stomach cramps, loss of appetite, and intense fatigue. A unique feature of this illness is its relapsing pattern, where symptoms may seem to disappear for a few days only to return. If untreated, the illness can persist for weeks. Returning summer travelers should be especially mindful of these symptoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you experience watery diarrhea or gastrointestinal distress lasting more than three days, especially if you have recently traveled outside the state or country, do not wait for it to pass.
