Dealing with Dictators: The United States and Paraguay’s Alfredo Stroessner

This talk will explore the complex history of US-Paraguayan diplomatic relations during the Cold War. At the core of that relationship was a dilemma: how could the United States support dictators like Stroessner while credibly claiming to promote democracy and human rights throughout the world?

Presented by Kirk Tyvela, Ph. D., Professor of History (UW-Milwaukee at Washington County)
