SUMMARY:Anagama Woodfire Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Instructors:\nMichael Ware is a ceramic artist living and working in Milwaukee\, Wisconsin with over 20 years of experience firing wood kilns. Michael holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts with a focus in ceramics from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee\, a university where he is also an instructor of ceramics. In Michael’s multifaceted ceramic process\, he creates ceramic work ranging from abstract sculpture to functional wood fired pieces. His work is shown nationally and is in many public and private collections. \nWorkshop Content:\nThis hands-on workshop focuses on the principals of firing the Japanese-style Anagama wood kiln at the picturesque UW-Milwaukee Waukesha Field Station. Participants have the opportunity to bring up to 4 cubic feet of bisque fired ceramic work made from cone 10 rated clay to be fired in the kiln. A selection of liner glazes will be available for students to use the week prior to loading the kiln. This hands-on workshop requires students to sign up for several shifts during the loading and firing of the kiln\, working in concert with a group of students enrolled in a wood fire course taught by Michael Ware at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. \n Class Schedule:\nApril 4th\, 9:30am-2pm: Wood and Kiln Prep Day\nApril 22nd: Drop off Work to Kiln by end of day\nApril 23rd -27th\, 8am-5pm daily: Loading of the Kiln\nApril 28th – May 2nd\, begins at 8am and will fire round the clock until the afternoon of May 2nd: Firing of the Kiln\nMay 9th\,  8:30am – 4pm: Unloading the Kiln and site clean-up – \nUseful materials to bring:\nWork clothes are advised including closed toed shoes\, jeans\, and heavy work gloves. We will be working outside so dress appropriately based on the weather and keep in mind there is physical work involved. \nLodging Accommodations & Food:\nThe workshop fee does not include overnight accommodations. However\, tent camping space may be available on the property at no charge. \nWorkshop Fee\n$325.00. Available for 3 CEU.
