5 Safe Winter Activities For Winter Break

Regner Park

Winter is back in full force in Wisconsin. With the holidays here and UWM’s winter break beginning, there are usually so many activities to look forward to. However, due to COVID-19 this year we feel limited in what we can do. Here are some safe, outdoor activities to consider between now and the beginning of the spring semester. Grab whoever you live with, your coat, boots, and mask, and head outside!

Enchantment in the Park at Regner Park

Every year from the end of November through Christmas, Regner Park is full of beautiful lights and fun family activities for Enchantment in the Park. Stroll through the park’s paths while looking at the lights (drive-thru and walk-thru options available), enjoy treats and hot cocoa around fire pits, or hop on a carriage ride (masks required). They ask for a simple donation to gain entry into the park per each drive-thru and walk-thru group.

Skiing, Snowboarding, and Tubing

We’re lucky to be near some great skiing and tubing hills: Sunburst and Little Switzerland. No matter your winter sport of choice, they have an option for you! Face coverings are required indoors along with social distancing.

Hike or Snowshoe Nearby Trails

So many amazing hiking trails are nearby, including the Ice Age Trail. Grab some boots or snowshoes if you own them, and hit the trails! We personally love the trail that goes through Ridge Run County Park, located right behind our campus.

Shalom Wildlife Zoo

The Shalom Wildlife Zoo is 100 acre zoo full of over 400 local and exotic animals! Between now and the end of December, they are offering “Christmas at the Zoo: Holiday Drive-Thru.” After this event, they are closed January-April.

Cross-Country Skiing

Did you know that the Lac Lawrann Conservancy has 3km of groomed trails and additional ungroomed trails open for skiing and snowshoeing? This 137-acre natural area is connect to 35 acres of neighborhood park and is gorgeous to visit.
