Further Rigorous Evaluations of U-Pace

With support from the U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences, we conducted a four-year randomized controlled study involving 1,920 undergraduates across three disciplines (psychology, sociology, and political science). The result of this research revealed that the combination of U-Pace’s core components — Amplified Assistance with learning and mastery-based learning — are responsible for the greater learning produced by U-Pace instruction. This research also determined that all students benefit from U-Pace instruction.

With support from EDUCAUSE, funded through Next Generation Learning Challenges, we seeded U-Pace introduction to psychology courses in public universities. In addition, we provided U-Pace training to instructors from 20 additional colleges or universities. Evaluation data from adopting institutions showed the technology-enabled U-Pace instructional approach is effective across institutions, LMSs, and student populations.

The findings on U-Pace have been published in the peer reviewed journals EDUCAUSE Quarterly, EDUCAUSE Seeking Evidence of Impact, EDUCAUSE Review, Online Learning Journal, Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, the American Journal of Distance Education, and the Journal of Asynchronous Learning Networks, and have been presented at the following high profile conferences.
