Students have access to <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/advising\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/advising\/\">academic advisors<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/studentsuccess\/peer-mentors\/\">peer mentors<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/studentsuccess\/tutoring-and-supplemental-instruction\/\">free tutoring<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/diversity-equity-inclusion\/people-category\/multicultural-student-centers\/\">UWM&#8217;s New Student Center<\/a> is available to all students, offering culturally sensitive guidance and support throughout their academic journey, from navigating financial aid to planning for careers.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Campus Safety<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>UWM is located in Milwaukee\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitmilwaukee.org\/neighborhoods\/east-side\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.visitmilwaukee.org\/neighborhoods\/east-side\/\">Upper East Side<\/a> neighborhood, close to campus resources, and city amenities. Campus safety is supported through a coordinated system designed to help students move through their day with confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UWM Police Department operates year-round, with officers patrolling campus 24\/7 on foot, bicycle, and vehicle. In addition to emergency response, they provide practical support services such as vehicle assistance, lockout support, <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/police\/safety-training-information\/self-defense-training-information\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/police\/safety-training-information\/self-defense-training-information\/\">self-defense education<\/a>, and ongoing community engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To keep them informed and prepared, students are automatically enrolled in campus safety email alerts from UWM Police. They may also opt in to receive text message notifications for urgent updates and emergency situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional support is available when students are on the move. Safety escort services provide walking accompaniment within a defined area around campus. For longer distances, UWM offers a free ride program through <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/boss\/\">Be On The Safe Side (B.O.S.S.)<\/a> providing reliable transportation during evening hours.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Student Health and Well-Being<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Care is built into the student experience at UWM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When a student is sick or needs support, they have access to the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/wellness\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/wellness\/\">Student Health and Wellness Center<\/a>, which provides year-round medical care on campus.
