UC Chair Kris O’Connor reported that the Faculty Representatives Committee will be serving as an advisory board to the Title and Total Compensation Group. O’Connor reported that the committee was briefed on the implications of the state budget for UW System schools, and also discussed sick leave reporting. They also received an update on the status of the Program Productivity Monitoring Policy, which has undergone revisions and still needs to be approved; the new draft was planned to be released on March 22.

The Education reporter for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Karen Herzog, has retired. Chair O’Connor suggested the UC meet with whomever is the new Education reporter. O’Connor also provided updates on UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater.

Chancellor Mark Mone attended, and briefed the committee on the Chancellor’s Retreat, held yesterday. The Chancellor’s goals for the retreat were to increase awareness of where higher education is today and how this will impact UWM, and to request assistance with communicating this to the rest of the campus. Ideas on how to enhance engagement and awareness campus-wide were generated and discussed.

Professor Nadya Fouad attended to provide an update on the Male Allies Initiative. The Male Allies Initiative involves several elements: 1) the first Male Allies workshop (held); 2) another Male Allies workshop to be held on April 25 and 26, and 3) training for Male Advocates; applications are being solicited, for which the deadline is March 25th. The Woman’s Advisory Board will work with the action plans the Male Advocates will be developing. Listening sessions will be offered to women on campus as well. This work will help us move towards applying for an ADVANCE (institutional transformation) grant from NSF, targeted towards women in STEM.

The committee discussed a replacement for a faculty member augmenting the EC of Translation, in L&S.

UC member Dev Misra reported that SSEA met and was close to finalizing the report on the Dean of the Graduate School.

UC member Mark Schwartz reported that the Library Director Search Committee had their screening meeting, telephone interviews will be held in several weeks.

UC member Laura Otto-Salaj reported that the CGS Dean search is progressing; applications are being received and reviewed by the S&S Committee members. Applications will be discussed at the next meeting, to be held the first week in April.

UC will not be meeting during the week of spring break. The next meeting will be on March 26.
