Planning for the Future – Academic Year

The Planning for the Future Program at UWM offers an academic year program for middle school students in 6th through 8th grade. The program operates October through May. This program aims to address the needs of students through educational and social activities.

Program includes:

  • Reading/Writing, Math and Science Classes (skill-building to enrichment levels)
  • Life Skills and Leadership Workshops
  • Majors and Careers Exploration
  • Tutoring (Quest Project) and Advising (School Visits)
  • Mentoring by High School and College Students
  • Guest Speaker Presentations
  • Campus Tours, Field Trips and Social Activities
  • Positive and Supportive Learning Environment

Eligibility

In order to participate in the Planning for the Future Academic Year students should be:

  • Interested in developing academic, leadership and social skills
  • In 6th-8th grade
  • Mature and Responsible
  • Willing to attend entire program year

A completed application should include:

  • UW Common Registration Form (w/ parent signature)
  • DPI Pre-College Scholarship Application (Part I and Part II are required)
  • Record Release and Consent Form (w/ parent signature)
  • Medical Treatment Consent and History Forms (Part I and II w/ parent signature)
  • Submit a One-Page, Typed, Double Spaced Essay on Designated Topic
  • The Most Recent/Current Report Card (progress reports not accepted)
  • Your child’s social security number (in designated areas)
  • Parent and School Signatures (in designated areas)

Please Note: No partial or faxed applications will be accepted (if we receive them they will be discarded). Please do not include awards, certificates, status promotion documents, etc.

Policies and Fees

Policies:

  • Submitting a completed application does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
  • You will be notified by mail of your status. No phone calls please.
  • No partial or faxed applications will be accepted.
  • Parents and students must attend orientation. Participation in program will be forfeited for non compliance of the rule.

Fees:

  • If you are Eligible for DPI Scholarship: FREE
  • If you are NOT Eligible for DPI Scholarship: $575.08

Please Note: In order to qualify for DPI Scholarship student must be Eligible for Free or Reduced Lunch or meet MPS guidelines for free or reduced lunch status.
