Common Reading Experience

What is the Common Reading Experience?

The Common Reading Experience provides new Panthers the opportunity to read one text and practice engaging with college-level material in a discussion during Panther Academic Welcome. Each year, the Common Reading Experience ties into programming throughout the academic year centered on the themes of the text and is often incorporated into some classes designed specifically for first-year students.

The goals of the Common Reading Experience are:

  • To spark conversation about important issues of intellectual, social, and moral significance.
  • To connect first-year students with faculty members from multiple disciplines around the university.
  • To build community among new students through intellectually-stimulating discussion.
