LeaderShape Institute

Every summer, UWM Student Leadership Program sends a delegation of students to the LeaderShape Institute National Session.

Each national leadership program focuses on self-discovery in a supportive learning community. Participants are challenged to lead with integrity and to create a vision for change. After attending LeaderShape, you will be apart of a select group of individuals who will be changing the world through their ‘Day 7.’ What is Day 7? That’s up to you.

Applications for LeaderShape 2019 are currently closed. Check back in Spring 2020 for your chance to attend next year!

Check out this review of the LeaderShape National Session from a former attendee, Sanjeev:

“If you are looking for an opportunity to grow as a leader, make new connections, or simply step outside of your comfort zone, LeaderShape is worth applying for. As a generally introverted person, the thought of going to Champaign, Illinois for a week to a national conference with no one I knew terrified me. Luckily, I motivated myself to go and be fully vulnerable, because LeaderShape was the most life-changing experience I’ve had. The curriculum was very inspiring and challenging, which I loved. For example, each day was based on a different complex theme that was designed to make the participant self-reflect and challenge their own opinions, as well as see the perspectives of our peers from all over the country. I think of the lessons that were taught from the activities and discussions, and consciously try to apply them to my everyday life.

Although the curriculum was meaningful, my biggest takeaway was from the social aspect of the conference. It was incredible that around 70 strangers from different backgrounds and areas of the country could become close friends in only a week! Between the large group discussions and family clusters, the vulnerability of everyone truly let us connect to each other on personal levels that I’ve seldom experienced. My family cluster still connects periodically and gives life updates, as well as how our leadership journey is going at our own campuses. The common goal of wanting to change the world and the inclusivity of the LeaderShape atmosphere is eye-opening, irreplaceable, and motivating. I would strongly encourage anyone with a goal to become a better person to apply to be a part of UWM’s delegation to LeaderShape because it will change your life.”
