You Are on Indian Land (Mike Kanentakeron Mitchell), made by the Indian Film Crew of Canada’s National Film Board, documents the 1969 protest, unfurled in response to Canada’s violation of treaty rights, by the Kanien’kéhaka (Mohawk) of Akwesasne, a territory that straddles the Canada–U.S. border. Made by the occupants themselves with a crew from Third World Newsreel, Mohawk Nation(Allan Siegel) chronicles the 1974 re-occupation of ancestral lands by Mohawk tribe members.
