The Rise and Fall of the Brown Buffalo

March 27 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

In celebration of the Commemorative National Holiday for Cesar Chavez, we will be showing the film “The Rise and Fall of the Brown Buffalo”. The film is directed by Phillip Rodriguez and it tells the life story of Oscar Zeta Acosta, a controversial civil rights attorney and activist who was on the front lines of the Chicano Movement of the early 1970s. If Oscar Zeta Acosta is remembered at all, it is not as a fighter for Chicano civil rights. Acosta has gone down in history as “Dr. Gonzo,” Hunter S. Thompson’s companion in the film “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” Now, decades after Acosta’s 1974 disappearance in Mexico, he is reintroduced in the context of the Chicano movement.
