THIS SCREENING IS FREE FOR EVERYONE!
The third film in From Deserts to Desserts is a unique addition to the series, The Martian. In this funny and fascinating film, botanist Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is accidentally left behind on Mars and has to use ‘all his botany powers’ to survive. The film asks us to consider how food growing and preparation might change in the time of climate change, as environments become more hostile to farming.
Share the Earth, UWM Restaurant Operations and the UWM Office of Sustainability are pleased to partner for the first time on a mini series with the host of the Emmy award-winning show Wisconsin Foodie, Kyle Cherek. Each monthly film from November through March will start at 6PM and will be followed by a discussion moderated by Kyle Cherek.
Kyle’s guest after The Martian is Chef Seth VanderLaan. Chef VanderLaan is currently the Executive Chef for the Brewers, but because of his innovations at the stadium (such as vertical gardens that grow produce for the stadium itself) Space X (Elon Musk’s space innovation company) has hired him to consult on food matters relating to space projects. This promises to be a fascinating conversation! Please join us at 6pm for The Martian and stay for a conversation on food that will be…….out of this world!
