TedxUWMilwaukee hosts – It’s All Geek To Me

February 22, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

TEDxUWMilwaukee would like to extend an invitation to all, geeks and non-geeks alike to our upcoming TEDxSalon, It’s All Geek To Me. At this event, we pose the question – where does normalcy end and geek begin? What do geeks contribute to our community?

Three local community members, three live talks.

NonprofIT: Tech from the Classroom to the Community
NonprofIT is a program at UWM which builds upon the University’s mission of community engagement by connecting student’s IT expertise to nonprofit organizations. Students complete a semester long project like building a website, as part of a team for a nonprofit in the Milwaukee area whom may otherwise lack the resources or staffing to carry out the project. Students gain internship credit while working on a real project and engaging within the community.

Geek Deep: Leadership Lessons From The Fringe
The geeks have inherited the earth. We have entered an era when those that were the least popular are suddenly in the spotlight. Quirky, obsessive, intelligent – these are all traits that felt dangerous in middle school, but seem to be defining characteristics for success in today’s economy.

Matt’s message explores the nature of geeks of all stripes, and how their various fixations drive them to achieve mastery, long-range projects, innovation, and the rapid spread of ideas. As leaders, it turns out we have a lot to learn from the guy who makes his own chainmail.
