Curated by Portia Cobb

“I invited the work of 3 women-filmmakers who share common ground via their journey through the portal that is the UWM film program and creatively through their explorations of radical black feminine identity and imagination. The subtitle of this program is a nod to feminist themes in author Alice Walker’s “The Temple of My Familiar” which examined the Black cultural experience, and sexual politics experienced through the stories of young black women and girls. These filmmakers each examine elements of the black feminine psyche & the temple of a familiar: Being.”
