The University Legal Clinic offers free legal assistance to currently enrolled UWM students. The on-staff attorney and volunteer student paralegals provide UWM students with information on protecting and enforcing their rights. The University Legal Clinic commonly assists students on matters relating to landlord/tenant, criminal offenses, traffic citations, uncontested divorce, personal injury, and more.
The University Legal Clinic will assist you if you meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled UWM student
- Have an issue that is not against another UWM student or UWM entity
- Have not already retained an attorney
The University Legal Clinic operates on a walk-in basis. Please come prepared with all relevant documents to your case and student ID. After filling out the necessary paperwork, a paralegal will gather case information in a private interview. An appointment will be made afterwards with the staff attorney, if needed.
Most issues can be resolved during the initial visit. In some situations, student may need to meet with the attorney multiple times. It is at the attorney’s discretion whether or not to continue a case.
If the University Legal Clinic cannot assist you, we have referral information available for other organization that may be of assistance.
