UW System Freedom of Expression Policy

On October 6th, 2017, the UW-System Board of Regents passed a Commitment to Academic Freedom and Freedom of Expression policy. The Student Association’s Student Life and Interest Committee is currently taking comment from UWM students on the policy. One concern Student Association has with the policy is consequences associated with students violating this policy. The policy states: “Requires suspension for a student who has twice been found responsible and expulsion for a student who has thrice been found responsible for disruption of freedom of expression.”

Student Association is dedicated to informing students on the policy and working on some campus programming to ensure students understand their rights as it relates to Freedom of Speech.

For more information please see the full Board of Regents Policy.

Though ultimately SA was not able to do anything about the policy they spoke out against it, and added their voice. One of SA’s main concerns is making sure the Student Body is aware of policies and procedures used, created, or changed, that impact UWM student experience.
