DESCRIPTION:Trip Dates: Sunday\, 3/22 depart at 6:00am\, return to campus Friday 3/27 at 8:00pm\nAdventure awaits in the Adirondacks! Established in eastern upstate New York in 1892 as one of the first Forever Wild Forest Preserves in the nation\, the Adirondack Park is a unique wilderness area and National Historic Landmark. Outdoor Pursuits invites you to join us for scenic snowshoe hikes and Winter Olympic-inspired fun! Lodging: Rustic cabins with bunk beds and bathrooms. Daily expected temperature: High of 38°F (3.3°C)\, Low of 9°F (-12.77°C). \nItinerary:\nDay 1 (Sun. 3/22): Drive to our first cabin ~15.5 hours\nDay 2 (Mon. 3/23): Snowshoe hike Lyon Mtn. Fire Tower 5-mile round trip\, 3\,830 ft elevation\nDay 3 (Tues. 3/24): Learn to cross country ski at Mount Van Hoevenberg and explore Lake Placid and the Olympic Center\nDay 4 (Wed. 3/25): Snowshoe hike Coney Mountain + Buck Mtn. Fire Tower; 2.2-mile round trip 652 ft elevation (Coney Mtn.) 2.4-mile round trip\, 2\,400 ft elevation (Buck Mtn. FT)\nDay 5 (Thurs. 3/26): Explore Niagara Falls State Park and drive to our second cabin ~6 hours\nDay 6 (Fri. 3/27): Drive back to UWM ~9 hours \nThe registration fee covers all lodging\, group transportation\, breakfasts\, lunches\, and dinners\, snow sports equipment\, park entry fees\, and trip leader compensation. DESCRIPTION:Trip Dates: Depart Saturday\, 3/21 at 7:00am and return to campus Saturday\, 3/28 at 8:00pm\nSpend an eight-day adventure in the southeastern U.S. exploring some of the most scenic trails of the Appalachian region. We’ll visit the Red River Gorge in Kentucky where you’ll get to try the very first Via Ferrata course in North America\, a kind of climbing-hiking hybrid that lets you scale up cliffs safely without any prior experience. Then travel to Virginia where we’ll explore multiple state parks. Finally\, we’ll head to Shenandoah National Park where we’ll explore caves and mountaintops. Can’t wait to adventure with you all! \nItinerary:\nDay 1: Drive to Kentucky and tent camp in The Red River Gorge\nDay 2: Via ferrata climbing and hiking\nDay 3: Hike and tent camp at Breaks Interstate Park\nDay 4: Hike Channels Natural Area in Virginia and see a waterfall\nDay 5: Hike Molly’s Knob trail\, check out a natural bridge\, and tent camp at Shenandoah River State Park\nDay 6: Tour a wonderful cave and explore Harrisonburg\, Virginia\nDay 7: Hike Old Rag Summit in Shenandoah National Park\nDay 8: Drive back to UWM \nThe registration fee covers all lodging\, group transportation\, camping equipment\, breakfasts\, lunches\, and dinners\, park entry fees\, and trip leader compensation. DESCRIPTION:Trip Dates: Depart March 13 at 3pm and return to campus March 14 at 5pm\nThe Student Health and Wellness Center and Outdoor Pursuits have paired up to provide a unique overnight cabin stay in combination with a 4 hour silent retreat. Professionals from the Student Health and Wellness are trained to facilitate silent meditations from the Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults (MIEA). The meditations include a walking meditation\, food meditation\, stretching meditation\, and more. Outdoor Pursuits will help provide meals and hikes. SUMMARY:Big Powderhorn Weekend Ski/Snowboard Trip
DESCRIPTION:Our annual ski/ snowboard trip! This year\, we are headed to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan\, Big Powderhorn Mountain. Previous downhill skiing and snowboarding experience is required. We will not be offering lessons. We will spend two nights at Camp Jorn YMCA’s cabin. The cabin includes bunk beds\, kitchenette\, and bathrooms. The trip’s price includes all transportation\, lodging\, meals\, and lift ticket. Rental equipment is an extra fee at checkout\, $70\, and includes a helmet and skis or snowboard. \nWe will also spend Sunday morning ice skating the Glide before we drive home (optional experience). The Glide is a 0.8 mile ice skating ribbon through the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest. Please bring your own ice skates. Rental ice skates are available on-site. \nThere is an option to place a $75 deposit at checkout – the remainder of the balance must be paid in person before registration closes. \nRegistration closes Feb 6th! SUMMARY:The Great American Southwest Expedition
DESCRIPTION:Friday January 9 6am departure\, Sunday January 18 9pm return to campus\nThis trip is an opportunity to explore the American Southwest in a variety of fun ways! Camping\, hiking\, paddling\, sand sledding\, and a cave tour are all ways we’ll be exploring these beautiful desert landscapes. Expect to learn camping skills\, hike trails with elevation\, canoe for four hours\, and do some stargazing—Big Bend is an International Dark Sky Park\, offering some of the darkest skies in the country! Here is a rough itinerary of the trip: \nDay 1: Full day drive (in UREC minivans) to Wichita\, Kansas\, stay in a hotel\nDay 2: Full day drive to a campground by White Sands National Park\nDay 3: Explore and go sand sledding in White Sands National Park\, camp nearby\nDay 4: 4hr drive to International UFO Research Museum and 2hr drive to camp by Guadalupe Mountains National Park\nDay 5: Tour Carlsbad Caverns and hike in Guadalupe Mountains National Park\, camp nearby\nDay 6: 5hr drive to Big Bend National Park and explore\, camp nearby\nDay 7: Guided river canoeing experience on the Rio Grande\, camp nearby\nDay 8: Hike and camp in Big Bend National Park\nDay 9: Full day drive to Oklahoma\, stay in a hotel\nDay 10: Full day drive back to UWM \nThe registration fee covers all lodging (campgrounds and hotels)\, group transportation\, 9 days of breakfasts\, lunches\, and dinners\, camping equipment\, guided activities (caving\, museum visit\, canoeing)\, park entry fees\, and trip compensation. Participants are responsible for 1 breakfast\, lunch\, and dinner while traveling\, along with any extra snacks or souvenirs. Registration closes December 5th. \nNo previous camping experience is required to attend this trip. There will be two mandatory\, 2hr pre-trip meetings with the trip leaders after you register to learn more about the itinerary\, practice outdoor living skills\, and meet the other participants. \nThere is a $200 deposit option at checkout. The remainder of the balance is due before the trip’s departure. DESCRIPTION:Saturday October 25\, 10am departure to Sunday October 26\, 7pm return to campus.\nJoin Outdoor Pursuits as we explore the Elroy Sparta State Trail by bike. The gravel trail is well known for its long\, out of service train tunnels that you can bike through. We’ll also be camping at Wildcat Mountain State Park for one night. All food\, gear\, transportation\, trail passes\, and instruction is included. This remote and rugged wilderness promises an immersive backcountry experience amidst the beauty of Michigan’s striking fall colors! DESCRIPTION:Did you know that the Milwaukee area is one of the surfing capitals of the Midwest? Lake Michigan is great to learn how to surf and provides a practice ground for bigger water. This surfing class is geared toward first time surfers who have never been on a board before! We will provide wet suits\, personal flotation devices (PFD)\, surf boards\, instruction\, booties (if needed)\, and gloves (if needed). You will learn the beginner skills of how to “pop up\,” stand up\, and control a surfboard. Registration closes 2 days before the trip. Transportation will NOT be provided to Atwater Beach. DESCRIPTION:Have you explored Milwaukee’s Farmers Markets yet? Join Outdoor Pursuits as we bike as a group to the Shorewood Farmers Market. The bike ride follows the Oak Leaf Trail 2 miles (3.2km) to Estabrook Park. Previous biking experience is required. Bike rental\, helmet\, and lock are included\, but you are welcome to bring your own bike or a Bublr Bike as well. The trip will start at Outdoor Pursuits in the Klotsche Center. Whether it’s your 1st time rock climbing or your 10th time\, UREC Climb Night is the perfect way to learn more about rock climbing\, have fun\, and meet other UWM students\, faculty\, and staff! \nHarnesses will be provided – all you need is your UWM ID\, CLOSED TOE SHOES\, comfortable clothing\, and a water bottle. Transportation will NOT be provided for this event BUT you can access Adventure Rock via the Prowl Line (FREE for all students\, faculty\, and staff) to Cambridge Commons or Riverview Residence Hall and walk 0.3miles (0.5km) to Adventure Rock located at 2220 N. Commerce St. \nHow long can I stay?
