Her work explores adornment and the feminine body not as passive objects of decoration\, but as sites shaped by labor–where effort\, weight\, and time become inseparable from value. Rooted in a commitment to care\, consent\, and accessibility\, Murphy-Besaw’s practice reimagines tattooing as a space of trust and affirmation\, particularly for those who have felt marginalized or unheard in traditional tattoo enviroments. Together these artists consider adornment as an act of agency. Whether forged in metal or inked into skin\, their works insist that decoration is never superficial–it carries out stories of labor\, identity\, and choice. This exhibition invites viewers to reflect on how bodies are shaped\, marked\, and valued\, and how making can become a means of reclaiming space\, power\, and visibility.

DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an artist talk by Brianna Cole\, the featured artist in ‘Too Much to Hold’ at the Union art Gallery! \nToo Much To Hold is an exhibition that features the work of Milwaukee based interdisciplinary artist Brianna Cole. Cole’s work begins as a response to everyday emotional states—nervousness\, decision anxiety\, and the unstoppable passage of time and is rooted in digital processes\, primarily using Procreate and Photoshop alongside 3D modeling software such as Blender. The events and situations that are featured within her work sit heavily in the heart and the mind\, moments that become difficult to hold alone. Rather than attempting to banish discomfort\, Cole creates images that make space for it\, offering these feelings a place to land and settle. In this way\, the drawings and paintings act as acts of care toward the self and toward emotional survival.\nCole received a BFA in Animation from Ball State University and is currently pursuing an MFA in Studio Art at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

SUMMARY:Bound Less - Ellee  Spalding
DESCRIPTION:Join the Union Art Gallery for Bound Less\, an exhibition showcasing UWM’s own alumna Ellee Spalding. Ellee’s abstract paintings and ceramic works investigate the balance between structure and randomness\, drawing attention to the overwhelming number of parallels between their interplay and the rhythms of life. Her process involves utilizing new and existing systems that invite collaboration with chance\, challenging her sense of control in the creative process through limits\, constraints and mapping of randomness. She spends much of her time at her studio in Bay View\, Milwaukee. She holds her BFA with a dual focus of Painting/Drawing and Ceramics\, along with a BA in Psychology from UWM. Spalding is a former intern at the loved\, Real Tinsel on Milwaukee’s south side. She has a foundation in community engagement\, most notably through her artist residency at EastCastle Place in Milwaukee where she continues to return for occasional workshops. She was also recently a teaching artist for an after school program ‘Creative Allies’\, a MIAD and MKE Rec collaboration.
