This course will cover underglaze techniques such as stenciling\, shaving cream swirl\, and Mishima inlay\, as well as overglazing processes such as dripping\, brushing\, and marbling. SUMMARY:Door County Camping Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Experience Wisconsin’s famous peninsula\, Door County! We will be camping and exploring at Peninsula State Park known for its overlooks\, beaches\, and trails. Expect to hike\, relax on the beach\, and spend down time cooking and relaxing at camp. All equipment\, transportation\, food\, and lodging are included in the price. All participants must attend a mandatory pre-trip meeting the week of. Registration closes on 9/25 at 3pm. \nCAMPING EXPERIENCE: Previous camping experience is not required. Outdoor Pursuits trip leaders will teach all outdoor living skills – building a fire\, cooking\, setting up a tent\, Leave No Trace ethics\, and more. Everyone is expected to help with all of these outdoor living skills on a daily basis.\nCAMPSITES: Rustic tent campsites that include setting up a waterproof tent on the ground with a foam sleeping and sleeping bag. Everyone will share a tent with 1-3 other participants.\nBATHROOMS: The campground has bathroom facilities with flush toilets and sinks. Some hiking trails may only have vault toilets\, similar to a porta potty.\nCELL PHONE RECEPTION: Cell phone reception is not guaranteed. The trip leaders will have a satellite phone for emergency communication and check ins. \nThere is an option to place a $50 deposit at checkout – the remainder of the balance must be paid online or in person at Outdoor Pursuits before the pre-trip meeting. DESCRIPTION:Learn basic techniques of surface decoration on ceramic forms! This course will cover underglaze techniques such as stenciling\, shaving cream swirl\, and Mishima inlay\, as well as overglazing processes such as dripping\, brushing\, and marbling. SUMMARY:Exploring & Camping Maquoketa Caves
DESCRIPTION:Maquoketa Caves State Park in Iowa is a caving gem! About 13 caves can be found in the park\, some of which can be explored by walking\, while others are better suited for serious spelunkers who enjoy crawling in tight spaces. Outdoor Pursuits will spend the weekend exploring the park’s trails\, bluffs\, and caves. We will camp at a nearby county campground. All equipment\, transportation\, food\, and lodging are included in the price. All participants must attend a mandatory pre-trip meeting the week of. Registration closes on 10/2 at 3pm. \nCAMPING EXPERIENCE: Previous camping experience is not required. Outdoor Pursuits trip leaders will teach all outdoor living skills – building a fire\, cooking\, setting up a tent\, Leave No Trace ethics\, and more. Everyone is expected to help with all of these outdoor living skills on a daily basis.\nCAMPSITES: Rustic tent campsites that include setting up a waterproof tent on the ground with a foam sleeping and sleeping bag. Everyone will share a tent with 1-3 other participants.\nBATHROOMS: The campground has bathroom facilities with flush toilets and sinks. Some hiking trails may only have vault toilets\, similar to a porta potty.\nCELL PHONE RECEPTION: Cell phone reception is not guaranteed. The trip leaders will have a satellite phone for emergency communication and check ins. \nThere is an option to pay a $50 deposit at checkout – the remainder of the balance must be paid online or in person at Outdoor Pursuits before the pre-trip meeting. DESCRIPTION:Did you know that the Milwaukee area is one of the surfing capitals of the Midwest? Lake Michigan is great to learn how to surf and provides a practice ground for bigger water. This surfing class is geared toward first time surfers who have never been on a board before! We will provide wet suits\, personal flotation devices (PFD)\, surf boards\, instruction\, booties (if needed)\, and gloves (if needed). DESCRIPTION:Trip Dates: Sat 10/17 depart at 9am\, return to campus Sun 10/18 at 4pm\nAre you interested in trying backpacking for the first time? This low-mileage trip is designed to teach you the basics of backpacking not far from Milwaukee. We’ll enjoy two days of hiking along Lake Michigan’s shores. \nPHYSICAL CAPABILITY: This trip REQUIRES a base level of physical fitness. Each day includes hours of hiking trails with a 30lb/ 13kg backpack\, living outdoors in mid 60F/16C weather during the day and mid 40F/ 4C weather at night. Previous backpacking experience is not required\, we will teach you! Participants must be able to walk continuously at an incline for at least 30 minutes without stopping. If you have questions about the physical demands of the trip\, please email hmurphy@uwm.edu. \nITINERARY: (subject to change)\nDay 1: Drive 1.5hrs to Point Beach State Park\, hike 4 miles (6.4km)\, camp along the beach\nDay 2: Hike 1.5 miles (2.5km) to the lighthosue\, drive back to UWM \nCAMPING EXPERIENCE: Previous camping experience is not required. Outdoor Pursuits trip leaders will teach all outdoor living skills – building a fire\, cooking\, setting up a tent\, Leave No Trace ethics\, and more. Everyone is expected to help with all of these outdoor living skills on a daily basis.\nCAMPSITES: Rustic tent campsites that include setting up a waterproof tent on the ground with a foam sleeping and sleeping bag. Everyone will share a tent with 1-3 other participants.\nBATHROOMS: Rustic campsites commonly have vault toilets\, similar to a porta potty\, without flush toilets or running water.\nSHOWERS: There is no access to showers\, but there will be plenty of clean drinking water you can use to wash your hands and face regularly.\nCELL PHONE RECEPTION: Cell phone reception is not gauranteed. Everyone is expected to help with all of these outdoor living skills on a daily basis.\nCAMPSITES: Rustic tent campsites that include setting up a waterproof tent on the ground with a foam sleeping and sleeping bag. Everyone will share a tent with 1-3 other participants.\nBATHROOMS: Rustic campsites commonly have vault toilets\, similar to a porta potty\, without flush toilets or running water.\nSHOWERS: There is no access to showers\, but there will be plenty of clean drinking water you can use to wash your hands and face regularly.\nCELL PHONE RECEPTION: Cell phone reception is not gauranteed.
