DESCRIPTION:Trip Dates: Depart March 13 at 3pm and return to campus March 14 at 5pm\nThe Student Health and Wellness Center and Outdoor Pursuits have paired up to provide a unique overnight cabin stay in combination with a 4 hour silent retreat. Professionals from the Student Health and Wellness are trained to facilitate silent meditations from the Mindfulness Institute for Emerging Adults (MIEA). The meditations include a walking meditation\, food meditation\, stretching meditation\, and more. Outdoor Pursuits will help provide meals and hikes. We will spend the night in a historical farmhouse in Whitnall Park surrounded by woods and trails. \nRegistration closes March 6th! In the driveway\, they run into her father\, who is strangely interested in Donghwa’s dinged up old car. He takes it for a spin around the block\, then invites Donghwa to stay and meet the family: him\, his wife\, who also writes poetry\, and Junhee’s reclusive sister\, who practices the gayageum\, a traditional string instrument. They end up wiling away the day together\, visiting a temple by the river\, climbing the hill near the house\, watching the sunset\, and\, sure enough\, imbibing drinks. This unique and expansive archive continues to preserve\, grow\, and reflect the ever-evolving landscape of avant-garde film—representing a commitment to the past\, present\, and future of the medium. Alongside giants like Hollis Frampton\, Bruce Baillie\, Deborah Stratman\, and Jennifer Reeves lie many lesser-known gems ready to ignite curiosity and expand minds. While the collection aims to capture an array of crucial cinematic history\, modes\, and movements\, the majority of work is artist-made\, short form\, and experimental in nature.\n\nFrom the Archives is an ongoing series curated by MFA candidates in the UWM Film Department. DESCRIPTION:New Releases \nPut Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk offers an intimate\, first-hand perspective on life under siege in Gaza\, captured through video calls between director Sepideh Farsi and 25-year-old Palestinian photojournalist and poet Fatma Hassona. Combining raw immediacy with deep humanity\, the film captures daily life during the conflict through the eyes and unwaveringly optimistic presence of Fatma\, a talented photographer whose generation is trapped in an endless cycle of war\, famine\, and resistance. Her conversations with Farsi bring us into the heart of the conflict\, even while their physical distance underscores the dire situation inside Gaza. SUMMARY:Appalachian Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Trip Dates: Depart Saturday\, 3/21 at 7:00am and return to campus Saturday\, 3/28 at 8:00pm\nSpend an eight-day adventure in the southeastern U.S. exploring some of the most scenic trails of the Appalachian region. We’ll visit the Red River Gorge in Kentucky where you’ll get to try the very first Via Ferrata course in North America\, a kind of climbing-hiking hybrid that lets you scale up cliffs safely without any prior experience. Then travel to Virginia where we’ll explore multiple state parks. Finally\, we’ll head to Shenandoah National Park where we’ll explore caves and mountaintops. Can’t wait to adventure with you all! \nItinerary:\nDay 1: Drive to Kentucky and tent camp in The Red River Gorge\nDay 2: Via ferrata climbing and hiking\nDay 3: Hike and tent camp at Breaks Interstate Park\nDay 4: Hike Channels Natural Area in Virginia and see a waterfall\nDay 5: Hike Molly’s Knob trail\, check out a natural bridge\, and tent camp at Shenandoah River State Park\nDay 6: Tour a wonderful cave and explore Harrisonburg\, Virginia\nDay 7: Hike Old Rag Summit in Shenandoah National Park\nDay 8: Drive back to UWM \nThe registration fee covers all lodging\, group transportation\, camping equipment\, breakfasts\, lunches\, and dinners\, park entry fees\, and trip leader compensation. This is a road-trip style trip therefore\, any participant with a current US driver’s license will be asked to register as a driver for the trip. Registration closes March 13th. \nWe encourage participants with previous hiking experience to register! Established in eastern upstate New York in 1892 as one of the first Forever Wild Forest Preserves in the nation\, the Adirondack Park is a unique wilderness area and National Historic Landmark. Outdoor Pursuits invites you to join us for scenic snowshoe hikes and Winter Olympic-inspired fun! Lodging: Rustic cabins with bunk beds and bathrooms.
