DESCRIPTION:Carmen Alicia Murguía is a proud U.S.-born poet and writer whose work explores love\, Latinidad\, politics\, queer identity\, and culture. She’s the author of six poetry collections and has been featured in academic journals\, anthologies\, and interviews on NPR\, PBS\, and other media outlets. Carmen began her poetry journey at The Loft Literary Center through the Inroads: Emerging Chicano/Latino Writer’s Mentorship Program and has since performed at festivals and venues across the country\, including New York\, Chicago\, Minneapolis\, and San Antonio.  \nHer contributions have earned her honors like Milwaukee Magazine’s “50 People You Should Know\,” the PRIDEFEST Stonewall Leadership Award\, and the LGBTQ Progress Award in Arts & Culture. A dedicated advocate and speaker\, she’s shared her voice at national conferences and in publications like El Conquistador\, The Shepherd Express\, and The Lambda Book Report.  \nWhen she’s not writing or performing\, Carmen loves spending time with friends\, traveling\, and curating playlists of R&B\, Cumbias\, Hip-Hop\, and Salsa. DESCRIPTION:The Midwest Climbing Series (MCS) is an annual circuit of climbing competitions held on University of Wisconsin and Minnesota campuses. The mission of MCS is to promote and support the growth of the collegiate Midwest climbing community by fostering connections and building relationships through collaborative efforts and the spirit of competition. \nThis competition will be held at Adventure Rock’s Walker’s Point location (613 S 2nd St\, Milwaukee\, WI 53204). Adventure Rock stands as an industry leader in commercial climbing gyms in the Midwest and a staple of the Milwaukee climbing community with their three locations. This surfing class is geared toward first time surfers who have never been on a board before! We will provide wet suits\, personal flotation devices (PFD)\, surf boards\, instruction\, booties (if needed)\, and gloves (if needed). You will learn the beginner skills of how to “pop up\,” stand up\, and control a surfboard. Registration closes 2 days before the trip. Transportation will NOT be provided to Atwater Beach. DESCRIPTION:Dani and Sheilah Restack have embarked on an artistic relationship that is formally and emotionally adjacent to their domestic lives\, a quotidian zone they share with their young daughter Rose. Both artists have established careers on their own. Neither Dani’ video work or Wilson’s multimedia performance and installation work could exactly prepare us for the force of the women’s collaborative efforts. – Michael Sicinski\, Cinema Scope\, 2017\n\nDani’s work is made with an emotional logic\, questioning cultural\, personal and animal realities. She got her MFA in Film/Video at Bard College in 2010. She has screened at the Union Docs\, Oberhausen\, Rotterdam\, MoMA PS1\, Anthology Film Archives\, Views from the Avant-Garde\, and Projections.\n\nSheilah uses photography\, video\, and text as performative and documentary tools to analyze the traces between history\, story and the land. Sheilah got her MFA from Goldsmith College in London 2005. DESCRIPTION:Saturday October 25\, 10am departure to Sunday October 26\, 7pm return to campus.\nJoin Outdoor Pursuits as we explore the Elroy Sparta State Trail by bike. The gravel trail is well known for its long\, out of service train tunnels that you can bike through. We’ll also be camping at Wildcat Mountain State Park for one night. All food\, gear\, transportation\, trail passes\, and instruction is included.
