DESCRIPTION:Learn basic techniques of surface decoration on ceramic forms! This course will cover underglaze techniques such as stenciling\, shaving cream swirl\, and Mishima inlay\, as well as overglazing processes such as dripping\, brushing\, and marbling. We will dive right in\, so students should bring pre-bisque pieces from ceramic workshops or personal practice to work on. Some smooth surfaces and others with carving or texture are recommended! SUMMARY:Door County Camping Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Experience Wisconsin’s famous peninsula\, Door County! We will be camping and exploring at Peninsula State Park known for its overlooks\, beaches\, and trails. Expect to hike\, relax on the beach\, and spend down time cooking and relaxing at camp. All equipment\, transportation\, food\, and lodging are included in the price. All participants must attend a mandatory pre-trip meeting the week of. Registration closes on 9/25 at 3pm. \nCAMPING EXPERIENCE: Previous camping experience is not required. Outdoor Pursuits trip leaders will teach all outdoor living skills – building a fire\, cooking\, setting up a tent\, Leave No Trace ethics\, and more. Everyone is expected to help with all of these outdoor living skills on a daily basis.\nCAMPSITES: Rustic tent campsites that include setting up a waterproof tent on the ground with a foam sleeping and sleeping bag. Everyone will share a tent with 1-3 other participants.\nBATHROOMS: The campground has bathroom facilities with flush toilets and sinks. Some hiking trails may only have vault toilets\, similar to a porta potty.\nCELL PHONE RECEPTION: Cell phone reception is not guaranteed. The trip leaders will have a satellite phone for emergency communication and check ins. \nThere is an option to place a $50 deposit at checkout – the remainder of the balance must be paid online or in person at Outdoor Pursuits before the pre-trip meeting. DESCRIPTION:Learn basic techniques of surface decoration on ceramic forms! This course will cover underglaze techniques such as stenciling\, shaving cream swirl\, and Mishima inlay\, as well as overglazing processes such as dripping\, brushing\, and marbling. We will dive right in\, so students should bring pre-bisque pieces from ceramic workshops or personal practice to work on. Some smooth surfaces and others with carving or texture are recommended! SUMMARY:Exploring & Camping Maquoketa Caves
DESCRIPTION:Maquoketa Caves State Park in Iowa is a caving gem! About 13 caves can be found in the park\, some of which can be explored by walking\, while others are better suited for serious spelunkers who enjoy crawling in tight spaces. Outdoor Pursuits will spend the weekend exploring the park’s trails\, bluffs\, and caves. We will camp at a nearby county campground. All equipment\, transportation\, food\, and lodging are included in the price. All participants must attend a mandatory pre-trip meeting the week of. Registration closes on 10/2 at 3pm. \nCAMPING EXPERIENCE: Previous camping experience is not required. Outdoor Pursuits trip leaders will teach all outdoor living skills – building a fire\, cooking\, setting up a tent\, Leave No Trace ethics\, and more. Everyone is expected to help with all of these outdoor living skills on a daily basis.\nCAMPSITES: Rustic tent campsites that include setting up a waterproof tent on the ground with a foam sleeping and sleeping bag. Everyone will share a tent with 1-3 other participants.\nBATHROOMS: The campground has bathroom facilities with flush toilets and sinks. Some hiking trails may only have vault toilets\, similar to a porta potty.\nCELL PHONE RECEPTION: Cell phone reception is not guaranteed. The trip leaders will have a satellite phone for emergency communication and check ins. \nThere is an option to pay a $50 deposit at checkout – the remainder of the balance must be paid online or in person at Outdoor Pursuits before the pre-trip meeting. DESCRIPTION:Did you know that the Milwaukee area is one of the surfing capitals of the Midwest? Lake Michigan is great to learn how to surf and provides a practice ground for bigger water. This surfing class is geared toward first time surfers who have never been on a board before! We will provide wet suits\, personal flotation devices (PFD)\, surf boards\, instruction\, booties (if needed)\, and gloves (if needed). You will learn the beginner skills of how to “pop up\,” stand up\, and control a surfboard. Registration OPENS 2 weeks before and CLOSES 2 days before the trip. SUMMARY:Intro to Backpacking: Point Beach State Forest
DESCRIPTION:Trip Dates: Sat 10/17 depart at 9am\, return to campus Sun 10/18 at 4pm\nAre you interested in trying backpacking for the first time? This low-mileage trip is designed to teach you the basics of backpacking not far from Milwaukee. We’ll enjoy two days of hiking along Lake Michigan’s shores. \nPHYSICAL CAPABILITY: This trip REQUIRES a base level of physical fitness. Each day includes hours of hiking trails with a 30lb/ 13kg backpack\, living outdoors in mid 60F/16C weather during the day and mid 40F/ 4C weather at night. Previous backpacking experience is not required\, we will teach you! Participants must be able to walk continuously at an incline for at least 30 minutes without stopping. DESCRIPTION:Trip Dates: Sat 10/17 depart at 9am\, return to campus Sun 10/18 at 4pm\nAre you interested in trying backpacking for the first time? This low-mileage trip is designed to teach you the basics of backpacking not far from Milwaukee. We’ll enjoy two days of hiking along Lake Michigan’s shores. \nPHYSICAL CAPABILITY: This trip REQUIRES a base level of physical fitness. Each day includes hours of hiking trails with a 30lb/ 13kg backpack\, living outdoors in mid 60F/16C weather during the day and mid 40F/ 4C weather at night. Previous backpacking experience is not required\, we will teach you! Participants must be able to walk continuously at an incline for at least 30 minutes without stopping. Together\, we’ll reflect on questions of grief\, hiding\, survival\, and the moments we’re still waiting to claim\, transforming those experiences into poetry and song. They are married to their beloved husband\, Anthony\, and are pledged in eternal servitude to two spoiled cats. Their most recent releases are a chapbook of poems about mental health and growing up queer called fear not the brave pain (2025)\, a fiery album entitled Hardshell (2023)\, and a poem about their beloved father called “Thirsty Ghost”\, which will be released in the near future in fsm.

In this workshop\, we will use poetry and songwriting as a way to free ourselves from the things that hold us back from being our true selves. No matter how raw the subject matter is or how revealing the words are\, this will be a place for conversation and camaraderie.    \n   \nIf there’s anything that you need to have additional details on or anything else you need from me\, notify me as soon as you can.  \n  \n7:00 PM -9:00 PM | Open Mic & Feature Performance | Union Fireside Lounge  \nMad Static is a hip-hop artist\, poet\, and songwriter\, based out of Milwaukee. As a teenager\, he looked to music (specifically hip-hop\, metal\, and alternative rock) as a way of dealing with the pressures of high school and living up to others’ expectations\, that nearly led him to depression. Ever since he first performed poetry for his high school talent show\, Static began going non-stop at writing and doing whatever it took to get his name heard.   \nAs he made music a full-time ambition\, he began cultivating his signature sound through various styles. A sound that intentionally mixes spoken word roots\, with sounds including Boom Bap\, contemporary Trap\, as well as House and Industrial. Static’s songs flow back and forth between themes of sociopolitical anguish to determination and self-discovery\, recited in almost a stream-of-consciousness delivery.  \n  \nFollow Mad Static’s journey on Instagram @madstatic414
