Student Advocacy & Engagement
The Advocacy and Engagement Department leads division-wide equity initiatives that support our strategic plan and contribute to the overarching goals and strategy set by the Chief Student Affairs Officer (CSAO) and the Chancellor. We work to build relationships with key stakeholders within Student Affairs and UWM to ensure that diversity, equity and inclusion efforts are thoroughly embedded in the culture of the organization. Additionally we provide consultation and facilitation to leaders and teams in managing the change associated with building a strong cultural competency and inclusive organization.
In addition to supporting the broader student advocacy and engagement efforts of the Division, the Advocacy and Engagement Department’s team includes the Centers for Advocacy and Student Engagement (CASE). CASE is a collective effort to educate, connect resources, and develop programming that advocates for all students, ourselves, and each other to impact change at structural, institutional, and systemic levels.
The members of CASE include the Inclusive Excellence Center (IEC), the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans Resource Center (LGBTRC), Military and Veteran’s Resource Center (MAVRC), and the Women’s Resources Center (WRC). Each of these Centers serve students by creating spaces, programs and resources that support each student on their journey through UWM.
