Foundation students need to complete the following four courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note<\/strong> that 821 and 822 have variable credits and students should register for the correct credit hours based on the curriculum set up with the MSW Advising Office at <a href=\"mailto:msw-advising@uwm.edu\">msw-advising@uwm.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>721 (215 hours and 3 credits)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>722 (200 hours and 3 credits)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>821 (250 hours and 3 credits OR 300 hours and 4 credits)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>822 (250 hours and 3 credits OR 300 hours and 4 credits)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-msw-advanced-standing-students\">MSW Advanced-Standing Students<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>MSW students with advanced standing need a minimum of <strong>700 hours<\/strong> in three consecutive semesters. Students who completed a BSW program and have advanced standing need to complete the following three courses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Please note<\/strong> that 821 and 822 have variable credits and students should register for the correct credit hours based on the curriculum set up with the MSW Advising Office at <a href=\"mailto:msw-advising@uwm.edu\">msw-advising@uwm.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>722 (200 hours and 3 credits)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>821 (250 hours and 3 credits OR 300 hours and 4 credits)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>822 (250 hours and 3 credits OR 300 hours and 4 credits)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>921 is a variable credit (1-4) elective course and needs field liaison approval for registration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Can I be waived from any field courses if I have worked in a social work position?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>No, students cannot receive field education credit for past work experience.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Which activities count toward the completion of my field hours?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>All time spent on the following activities count toward total field hours:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Field seminar attendance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completion of MSW field assignments (up to 10 hours per semester with field instructor approval)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completion of agency-directed field activities (including training)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Field supervisions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Field orientation to the field practicum<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">What assignments do MSW students complete as a requirement for their field education courses?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>MSW students enrolled in SW 722, 821, 822 should complete MSW field assignments (totaling 5 points each semester) under the direction and supervision of their agency field instructor. Students who are enrolled in <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/socialwelfare\/wisconsin-certification-licensure\/school-social-work\/\">School Social Work<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/socialwelfare\/academics\/social-work-msw\/yosut3\/\">Youth-Oriented Substance Use and Trauma Counseling Program<\/a> (YOSUT) or combined degree programs may have specific requirements for field assignments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"uwm-c-link--external\">These assignments are located on your <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm-ssw.sonialive.com\/School\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sonia<\/a> homepage.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">I am completing an employment-based field practicum. Are there separate requirements for this type of practicum?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>An employment-based field practicum has the same requirements for students and field instructors as all non-employment-based field practicums including weekly educational supervision and the assignment of added new responsibilities to expand on social work competency development. An employment-based field practicum plan needs prior field liaison approval.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Who can supervise my field practicum in the agency?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bsw-students-0\">BSW Students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Field instructors for baccalaureate students hold a baccalaureate or master\u2019s degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program and have at least two years of post-social work degree practice experience in social work<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-msw-students\">MSW Students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Field instructors for master\u2019s students hold a master\u2019s degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program and have at least two years post-master\u2019s social work degree practice experience in social work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The person identified as the field instructor is required to provide weekly supervision, review all field education\u202fdocuments completed by the student, and complete the mid-term progress report and the final field evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our field program strives to work with instructors for baccalaureate and master\u2019s degree social work students who have a CSWE-accredited baccalaureate or master\u2019s social work degree. Field liaisons have the discretion to arrange field education practicums on a case-by-case basis with field instructors who do not hold a CSWE-accredited baccalaureate or master\u2019s social work degree that fits one of the two additional criteria. In these cases, supervision by an individual who meets the CSWE requirements for supervision is provided to students in several ways, including:\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Co-supervision with an individual at the agency who meets the CSWE requirements for field supervision.\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supplemental supervision provided by UWM by a field faculty who meets CSWE requirements for field supervision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">What should I do if I have questions or concerns during the semester?<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Please direct your questions to your assigned field liaison. class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">What type of placement do I need if I want to pursue an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker)? <\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>A specific placement is not required for an LCSW, however, having a &#8220;clinical&#8221; placement will reduce the number of post-graduate hours required to obtain your LCSW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A clinical placement is defined by the State of Wisconsin Division of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) as:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least 2 semesters in a placement where more than 50% of the practice is to assess and treat interpersonal and intrapsychic issues in direct contact with individuals, families, or small groups.&nbsp;This placement must be in a \u201cPrimary Clinical Setting\u201d which is a Facility, or unit within a Facility, whose primary purpose is to treat persons with a DSM diagnosis.&nbsp;Students must engage in clinical social work services consisting of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, including psychotherapy and counseling, client-centered advocacy, consultation, and evaluation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
