October 15, 2015, Scholarship Gala: Investing in the Future

The Harley-Davidson Museum set the stage for an inspirational evening of celebration. With the help of event sponsors, donors, faculty, staff and community partners, we raised $100,000 for student scholarships. Thank you for investing in the future!

January: Basketball Game

We kicked off 2015 with Pounce and the UW-Milwaukee men’s basketball team. HBSSW’s 50th anniversary was recognized at half-time.

January: Fourth Street Forum

In collaboration with Milwaukee Public TV, the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare presented “4th Street Forum on the Road” on the UW-Milwaukee campus. Associate Professor David Pate was a panelist.

February: HBSSW Happy Hour

Students, alumni, donors, faculty and staff gathered at Three Lions Pub in Shorewood for the year’s first happy hour.

March: Social Work Month

HBSSW & Victory Garden Initiative teamed up to offer “Planning and Planting the Social Work Field,” a special workshop tailored for alumni, students and social workers.

June: HBSSW Happy Hour

Students, faculty, alumni and members of the social welfare community met for a summer happy hour in the Third Ward.

March: MPTV Fundraiser

HBSSW faculty and staff spent an evening working the phones for Milwaukee Public TV’s fund drive.

March: Criminal Justice Career Day

HBSSW’s 27th annual career day attracted representatives from 35 agencies including police departments, ATF, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, public defenders, and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

May: Recognition and Pinning Ceremony

The 2015 Recognition and Pinning Ceremony honored HBSSW graduates and scholarship recipients. Héctor Colón, Milwaukee County Director of Health and Human Services, gave the keynote address.

August: State Fair

How do you help? UW-Milwaukee Day at the State Fair was an opportunity for HBSSW to engage the public. Throughout the day, fairgoers stopped at our impromptu art table to write or illustrate how they help others.
