February was a busy month for #UWMSocial. As the spring semester began, we hit the ground running promoting and covering different news and events on campus. Some highlights include the Primary Democratic Debate, Gravitational Waves, 3rd annual Geek Week, UWM Drag Show and “R1” designation. Lots of good news to share!
UWM became “R1,” a top research institution in the nation by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. We are one of only 115 in the United States with this designation. We shared the news with a link to a UWM Report story. We used paid media to boost the post. In total, the post reached 198,784 people. Of those, 111,138 were organic and 87,646 were paid. There were over 2,600 reactions, 54 comments and 544 shares. Talk about being Panther Proud!
Amidst the craziness of February’s social media, we were also named one of the “50 Most Beautiful Colleges in Winter” by Best College Values. Rankings, such as this one, always resonate well with our followers. The tweet had 8,006 impressions with 40 likes and 29 retweets.

Another ranking for UWM! Well, not necessarily, but one for our neighbor by the lake. Bradford Beach was nominated by USA Today for “Best Urban Beach” and “Best Freshwater Beach.” The beach is always a popular spot during summers in Milwaukee and definitely a selling point for prospective students, so we had to share this news. The photo taken by University Relations photographer had 613 likes.
As the beauty of winter blanketed campus, we captured the snowy moments and buildings. It’s proof that campus is beautiful during every season.
