In August, we wrapped up our summer campaigns and prepared for 2016-17 school year.


This month on Facebook we saw the most results when posting videos. Whether it be a recap or a preview, our followers are more engaged when they have something to watch. We kicked off August with UWM Day at the Wisconsin State Fair and posted a recap video the next day. The State Fair video reached 20,252 people and had over 7,000 views. Everyone loves to see if they made the cut in the highlight reel!

The wait is finally over…who will headline Pantherfest?! In the weeks leading up to the August 25 release day, we tested students’ patience and sent a few teasers out. Coming in with 103 retweets and likes, the official release video tweet performed the highest of all tweets this month. When posting videos on Twitter, we usually link to the video on our Youtube page, but this time we uploaded the mp4 straight to Twitter for easier viewing.


August was the month of countdowns on Twitter. Countdown to Pantherfest announcement, first day of school and of course, move-in day! Our tweet one week before move-in day got students excited to come back to campus. It received 34 retweets and 53 likes altogether.



Summer is coming to an end and no one wants to admit it. On our Instagram page we like to post beautiful shots that capture student life on campus and around Milwaukee. We have found you can never go wrong with a picture of the iconic Milwaukee skyline. One of our top posts this month was a photo of the skyline at sunset over the water. It received 542 likes.

Another way we fill our Instagram profile is to repost photos from followers. We search for photos that tag us, use #UWM or add their location at UW-Milwaukee. Our top performing photo for this month was a repost by one of our favorite followers: @dooditsreggie. This photo received total of 620 likes. Everyone loves Panther pups!

This year, Snapchat made it easier for users to create their own geofilter to add to snaps. You can now create your own design, set the fence where it can be viewed and limit how long it is available. We took a stab at it for the first time during campus move-in. There were six different filters in all, spanning the three move-in days. Each of the three residence halls had a customized filter. In total, 50,206 users saw the geofilters and had 755 uses. This project featured a collaboration of the social team with our University Relations graphic designers and created a very successful integrated campaign. This is just the beginning of UWM On-Demand Geofilters.
