The saying goes “April showers bring May flowers.” And that they did. As spring blooms on campus and the semester winds down on its penultimate month, let’s take a look back at April’s content on #UWMSocial.
We kicked off the month with one of our favorite days of the year, opening day of Milwaukee Brewers baseball! As a proud partner of the Brewers, we love to show our support in any way we can. This year for Opening Day, we shared a video about UWM’s Innovative Weather, who determines the open or closed roof status at Miller Park. A pretty cool fun fact, right? Our Facebook community thought so, as the video had a reach of 20,878 with 6,500 views, 225 reactions and 50 shares.
Happy Opening Day, Milwaukee Brewers! ⚾️ Innovative Weather at UW-Milwaukee plays a major role determining whether Miller Park's roof should be open or closed. Take a look what goes on behind the scenes.

Surf’s up! Bradford Beach, our backyard neighbor, is always a hot Milwaukee spot in the summer for students. Travel Channel featured the beach as one of the United States’ top city beaches, so of course we had to share the news. Overall, 40,088 people were reached with 511 reactions, 118 shares, 28 shares and 28 comments.
Ready for some fun in the sun this summer? Travel Channel featured our backyard neighbor, Bradford Beach, as one of the top city beaches! ⛱☀️
Another day one of our favorite days of the year at #UWMSocial is Milwaukee Day on April 14. For this year’s 414 Day, video team members produced the first video of a new series, “Panther Minute.” The series’ premise is “man on the street” style videos interviewing students about UWM and Milwaukee topics. For 414 Day, students dished out their favorite Milwaukee hangouts. The video had a reach of 27,273 people with 10,000 views, 259 reactions, 69 shares and 17 comments.
Happy Milwaukee Day! UWM students are celebrating the city we love and call home. Where's your favorite hangout spot in the 414?

No, unfortunately, classes were not cancelled on Opening Day of Milwaukee Brewers baseball. That did not stop #UWMSocial from showing support, though! This photo of our favorite furry friend at Miller Park received 27,598 impressions, 146 likes and 43 retweets. Go Brew Crew!

Wisconsin weather, particularly Milwaukee, is very unpredictable. One day it’s beautiful and another the temperature drops 30 degrees. To express what was probably being felt by many UWM students, this topical tweet saw 5,883 impressions, 87 likes and 18 retweets. Tweets one can relate to always tend to perform well and that’s exactly what happened.

It’s not officially springtime on campus until the fountain is turned back on. This year, April 24 was that date and everyone on campus was ecstatic! Sharing a photo of the majestic beauty was only appropriate to commemorate the day. It had a total of 20,432 impressions, 287 likes and 85 retweets.

We saw a lot of success on Instagram with our content this month. Starting with this rainy day photo captured by a staff photographer, the photo received 1,227 with many comments. As we tied the photo and caption to the rainy April weather, it’s no surprise this photo is one of our most-liked posts!
Earth Week is always a fun week full of events on campus. Not many students know there’s a greenhouse on campus in the Northwest Quadrant. A staff photographer captured some photos during the greenhouse tour. With Instagram’s new gallery posts, we shared a few favorites. The multiple photo post received 444 likes.
Year after year, it’s clear our Instagram followers love a good, beautiful shot of campus. They always tend to have more engagement compared to our other photos posted. With staff access to a drone, we were able to share this photo of campus and the surrounding neighborhood highlighting the arrival of spring. Overall, the photo received 1,111 likes, now one of our top-performing Instagram posts.
UWM’s Earth Week celebration ended with Earth Day on April 22. UWM’s Conservation Club took over the Snapchat account to show us their day as they participated in the annual Milwaukee Riverkeeper cleanup. If you missed out on the fun day, check it out.
It’s hard to believe the semester and school year is almost over. Stay tuned to see what other projects and ideas #UWMSocial has up their sleeves!
