You will find yourself in a cohort with students majoring in global studies, business, arts, education, nursing, various languages, history, anthropology, environmental science, and many other programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon successful completion of the prep program, you will receive a certificate from the Peace Corps and a competitive edge when you apply to the Peace Corps. Minimum course requirements vary by desired placement region:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Latin America: Students indicating an intention to serve in Spanish-speaking countries must build strong intermediate proficiency \u2013 complete two 200-level courses in Spanish or demonstrate equivalent proficiency through another medium.\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>West Africa: Students indicating an intention to serve in French-speaking African countries must build proficiency in French or another Romance language \u2013 complete one 200-level course or demonstrate equivalent proficiency through another medium.\u202f<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Everywhere else: Students indicating an intention to serve anywhere else do not have explicit language requirements to complete the program, but are encourage to study a language other than English.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are a strong native speaker\u202fand\u202fhope\u202fto serve in a country that speaks your native language, you can skip this requirement!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"tab-2v2x-intercultural-competence\" class=\"uwm-p-tabcontent--pane\">\n<p>Engaging thoughtfully and fluidly across cultures begins with one\u2019s own self-awareness.\u202fWith this learning objective, you will\u202fdeepen\u202fyour cultural agility through\u202feither (option 1) three introspective courses\u202fin which\u202fyou\u202flearn about others while reflecting upon\u202fyour own self\u202fin relation to others or (option 2) two introspective courses and substantial intercultural experience. The goal is\u202ffor you to build your\u202fcapacity to shift perspective and behavior around relevant cultural differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All students take at least one of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Global 101: People and Politics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Global 201: Economics and the\u202fEnvironment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Global 202: Globalization and Technology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Global 442: Humanitarianism in Global Perspective<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Students choose one or two additional courses from the list above or these options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Commun 450: Cross-Cultural Communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Commun 350: Intercultural Communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Commun 550: International and Global Communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Global 477: The Global Politics of Human Rights<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Substantial intercultural experience can include studying or volunteering abroad, supporting new immigrants\u202for refugees acculturate to the United States, or volunteering in diverse schools. This type of experience would also strengthen your Peace Corps candidacy significantly.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"tab-2v2x-professional-development\" class=\"uwm-p-tabcontent--pane\">\n<p>Students must complete three professional development activities. This could include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Having your\u202fresume\u202fcritiqued by a career advisor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attending a workshop or career fair hosted by the Center for Student Experience and Talent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing at least one significant\u202fleadership experience\u202fand being prepared to discuss it thoughtfully.
