French is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world and an official language of the United Nations, with deep cultural, historical and global significance. Whether preparing for international travel or simply beginning a new language journey, learning French opens the door to a rich and diverse global culture.

The French language program at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee’s School of Continuing Education offers both on-demand and live online options to suit a variety of learning styles. Courses range from introductory through advanced levels (French I–V), with additional specialized offerings such as French for Travelers and Exploring Francophone Countries: French in African Countries.

Learners build foundational skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing while also gaining insight into French-speaking cultures. Vocabulary development, essential phrases, pronunciation and everyday conversation are emphasized, alongside exploration of history, politics and cultural context.
