Chinese

Spoken by more than a billion people, Mandarin Chinese is the most used language in the world and one of the six official languages of the United Nations. Whether you’re preparing for travel, expanding your career opportunities or exploring a new culture, learning Mandarin offers powerful, real-world benefits.

At UWM’s School of Continuing Education, our Chinese language program helps you develop skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Courses use the widely respected Integrated Chinese, Level 1, Part 1 (Simplified Characters) textbook. Students start with Pinyin (the official Romanization system) and gradually progress to reading and writing Chinese characters.

Instruction is delivered in both English and Mandarin, with more Chinese introduced as your skills grow. You’ll learn pronunciation, grammar and practical vocabulary through engaging dialogues, audio exercises and cultural insights.

Our experienced instructors provide supportive, immersive learning, perfect for beginners or continuing students looking to strengthen their Mandarin skills.
