Sammie Omranian is a graduate student in computer science at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Shiraz University in her native Iran and has worked as a high school math teacher for 10 years. She is teaching coding to students from 4th grade to 7th grade at “Girls Who Code” club at UWM.
She loves the logic behind the algorithms, which is similar to solving problems in mathematics. She believes it is the responsibility of a teacher to make STEM fields more enjoyable and approachable to high school students. Her goal is to attract more girls to computer science because women are underrepresented in computing.
