Paul Roebber, PhD
Distinguished Professor Paul Roebber has several decades of experience in public and private weather forecasting, synoptic and mesoscale modeling, and climate and data science. He has edited and published extensively in the scientific literature, including co-authoring a book published by MIT Press on expert forecasting (Minding the Weather), work that has led to improvements in operational tools used by the National Weather Service. Roebber has won dozens of competitive grants from federal and state agencies, as well as the private sector and the government of Canada, and has directed 29 thesis students at the doctoral and master’s level. In addition to his duties at UWM, he has been a Visiting Scientist at NOAA laboratories across the United States and at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Dr. Roebber holds advanced degrees in meteorology and physical oceanography from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and McGill University.
