Karen Sands is the director of Planning Research and Sustainability for the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD), an agency that provides water reclamation and flood management services for over one million customers in 28 municipalities across greater Milwaukee. Her work focuses on the areas of green infrastructure, sustainability, renewable energy and climate change. She serves on the board of directors for the Southeastern Wisconsin Watersheds Trust, Inc., the Northwest Side Community Development Corporation, and Discovery World, as well as on the executive board as secretary for the Wisconsin chapter of the American Planning Association. She holds an MA in regional planning and is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners.
